After having a homepage for more than 1 year and being a genealogist for more than 20 years I have realised that it`s time to reach out with some information to our friends and familys in English.
This homepage serve to main goals for our family: 1. To give and achieve information about our family in Norway, Australia, England and USA. 2. To tell our relatives about our daily life - in words and in pictures.
A short presentation of our family: Irene: (age 45). She is working at the faculty of medicine at the University of Oslo. This, and the activities of the 3 children, takes most of the time. Taking the children to meetings in our "church" also takes a lot of her time. She is also very fond of walking with her friends.
Morthen: (age 47) He is working with young students that have problems to fit into the normal school system in Norway - age 16 to 20. He have a lot of hobbies such as; computers, reading, collecting stamps, coins, pins, spinning, chess- and not to forget driving the children to chess tournaments and other activities.
Anne Marie: (age 19). She is a talentful violin player and is playing in the city orchestra of Drammen. She is also quite talentful with the piano and have a lot of fun with the guitar. In the Norwegian "High school" she choosed a line with a lot of drawing and painting. She is probably leaving us next year for more education somewhere else.
Erik Johannes: (11). He is the familys most entusiastic chess-player and have already playes in the Norwegian Championship 5 times. Every wednesday he´s playing in the local chess club with his father and other experienced players up to age about 80. And he is absolutely not making a fool out of himself. He started to play the piano in september and, according to his sister, he is more talentful than she was. He is also training a couple of times each week.
Paul Christian André: (7 ). He started to play violin last year and seems to enjoy that instrument. In january he started to play piano and seems to enjoy that even more, so theres a long line waiting to practice pianoplaying after school. He is also a talentful chess-player and played his first tournament at the age of 5. He is also training soccer every wednesday.
A place to relax and have fun. In may 2005 we bought a little cottage a few meters away from the inland lake named Hagatjern. This autumn we have almost finnished two bedrooms with 6 beds at the top floor. And the best of all; it´s only a ten minutes drive from home.
Our mountain paradise. Morthens mother have a cottage in the mountains, not far away from Lillehammer, the city of the Winter Olympics in 1994. It´s a wonderful place for winter activities and since Morthen is the only child we can use the place as much as we like.
September update: September was the month for the big celebrations in our family. At september 6. it was 20 years since Irene and I was married in the local church of Konnerud. What happened to all those days? - well we can always have a look in more than 20 BIG photoalbums. September 20. we celebrated that Paul Christian André was 7 years old. More than 20 children from his class was turning the house upside down. At September 26. Irene was 45 years old. We celebrated with a few of our best friends in a very quiet way - like we always do. (Pictures will come later)
October update: On saturday october 7. Irenes parents, Ola and Berit Koppang, had a great celebration og their 80. and 75. anniversary with more than 50 members of their family and friends in the local church in Drammen. In addidition Berit had a small party for her closest friends and family on her day at september 30.
Other family news in october: Late november Erik Johannes and Paul Christian André qulified to the Norwegian Championship in chess for juniors through the local tournament for Buskerud. We all look forward to a nice trip to Bergen with a lot of chess, but we also want to see the local aquarium and other facilities when we are there.
November update: The weekend in Bergen, playing yhe Norwegian Chamionship in chess, was a good experience for Erik Johannes
2007: In may i had some very exciting days doing a research on old family members who emigrated to America. The family in Norway never heard anything from them and that caused a lot of speculations about what happened to them. Now a part of the mysteri is solved. They traveled from the city of Bergen on june 22. 1882 and came to Philadelphia on july 10. The reason why I haven't found them before is that they were rigistred and citizens of Sweden on the boat British Prince. I still don't know what happened to Amund Pedersen Erlandshoug, his wife Rønnaug Johansdaughter and their two cildren Peder and Marie later. But I will! Some of their names are; Bonnie Bryn Hoffert, Kate Dinardo and Bette Patterson. (I think) Searching for these people I found more news about my grandmothers sister too. Anna Barrusten, married to Ole Bryn, had two children; Odin and Mildred. And they have children and grandchildren alive somewhere in the United States.
